Week 1 NFL Spread Picks

Week 1 NFL Spread Picks

In honor of George and Susan Constanza’s almost first born child, I will be making SEVEN weekly NFL spread picks. Actually I just needed a number that wasn’t too high and didn’t seem lazy. So here we are, seven spread picks to help you win your weekly pick ’em pool or win some extra cash on the side, legally or illegally, I don’t judge.

Week 1 Spread Picks

Philadelphia Eagles(-1) at Washington Redskins- Redskins slot receiver Jamison Crowder playing this week makes this pick a little bit tougher, but I still love the Eagles in this one. Washington is returning two of their four leading receivers from last season, both of which are beat up going into this game.

Go with the Eagles who are completely healthy in this one. They have the better roster, better coaching staff, more weapons, better defense and better quarterback.

New York Jets at Buffalo Bills(-7.5)- The Jets are a hot mess this season. The only position they aren’t complete garbage at is running back, which won’t matter when they fall behind 14-0 in the first quarter of every game this season.

Go with the Bills in this one because of two fantasy players- LeSean McCoy and Zay Jones. Both players should go off against a really bad defense and score enough to easily cover that 7.5 point spread.

Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans(-3)- I think both of these teams are playoff teams this season, but I like Tennessee because they are at home, have the better defense and run game. I don’t like the Raiders on the road this season because they will be so reliant on Derek Carr this season. Their defense stinks and their run game is a big question mark.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns(+9)- Pittsburgh is going to be a Super Bowl contender and the most explosive offense in the league, but it won’t show in Week 1. Martavis Bryant hasn’t played since 2015 and Le’Veon Bell took the entire summer off while he dealt with his contract situation. This offense will really take off in about a month, but they’ll be a bit rusty in September.

Go with Cleveland to cover the 9 point spread. They are a much improved offense with a very underrated defense. Deshone Kizer and Corey Coleman are going to develop into a great combination through the air and the offensive line is healthy enough to support a 1,000 yard season from Isaiah Crowell.

Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers(+5)- I always like big underdogs with new coaching staffs early in the season. There is not much tape on what they do best and how they attack a defense. Carolina is going to win this game, but it’s going to be really close. The lack the firepower to put San Fran away early and this one should come down to a late field goal.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys(-4)- I’ll make this one simple, one team is playing with a chip on its shoulder(Zeke suspension, and about 20 other suspensions) and a great offensive line, the other is the Giants who have a god-awful offensive line. Throw in the likelihood of no Odell Beckham and the Cowboys favored by 4 points seems like a bargain.

The Artist Formerly Known As San Diego Chargers(+3) at Denver Broncos- Quarterback, quarterback, quarterback. This game is all about the quarterback play. Both teams have good receiver, a fierce pass rush, but the Chargers have an outstanding quarterback and the Broncos have Trevor Siemian. The Chargers are going to score on everyone this season, their secondary isn’t great, but Denver doesn’t have the ability to expose that.

I like the Chargers to cover that 3 point spread and win this game outright.
